Welcome to PUBG
PUBG, or Player Unknown's Battleground, is a battle royal game, like the ever so popular Fortnite. Though unlike Fortnite, PUBG's main playerbase is in the East, which changes how the monetization of the game is approached. This means that PUBG is free to play, and allows users to pay for a Battleground's Plus pack. This pack allows players to play in certain modes that are otherwise inaccessible as to limit the amount of cheaters. Cheaters are a prominent issue in every online player vs. player game and are especially noticeable in free to play games. Another monetization change is how they handle cosmetics and events. In the East one of the most popular ways to get items in game is through a gacha system, named aptly after the sound the company makes after getting you to spend your hard earned dollars on loot boxes that did not have what you had wanted in them. So you have the opportunity to get lootboxes if you play frequently during cross-over events with other games, or if an event is not happening, playing a lot of the game itself to purchase the generic loot boxes, called Hunter Crates, with the In-Game currency called BP.
I digress, a battle royal is a genre of game in which teams of one to four fight to be the last standing. During which a zone or circle most commonly is placed somewhere random on the playing field and the teams are restricted there as to not take damage over time from the "out of bounds" area or zone. This is to facilitate interaction between the players and to help the game take a shorter period of time. Your goal is to survive until the end and become the #1 Player or Team, also known as Winner Winner Chicken Dinner, because of the phrase that pops up whenever you do win. You are to do this by any means necessary, within the game, hiding till the end, playing inside the zone on purpose to get the game to a “heal off”, or to just run and gun everyone you see. Though most people play slowly and take fights that they know they can win through means of third party-ing or running from unfavorable fights. There are many ways to play and none of them are wrong, because at the end of the day, every way to win is possible and having fun is the number one goal.
